They completed both of their private raises in Early 2021 and then had the capital to start hiring new talent. For Aaron, it was designing the game, Grant creating the branding and art style, and Kieran raising the capital. Once they decided on the DAO framework, they split up to work on their responsibilities. They decided to have Governance and Staking, which featured a novel idea to distribute all of the in-game revenue back to people staked in the protocol. With their eldest brother Kain Warwick one of the pioneers of DeFi, The next step was working out which elements they would include. After a few minutes, they agreed that the combination of a collection and auto battler game was it. The brothers met the next day and Aaron pitched his idea. They didn’t know that Aaron would get to work immediately designing a game that would incorporate the skilful auto-battler that he had fallen in love with and an Open-world that allowed the collection of the characters. After hours of robust discussion, they couldn’t agree and decided to leave the decision to the next day. He wanted it to have more skill components and pitched them on an Auto-battler similar to TFT. Aaron wasn’t as enthusiastic about the idea. Grant and Kieran grew up collecting Pokémon cards and agreed that it had to be a modern-day creature collection game. All three brothers agreed that the opportunity deserved AAA quality but deciding the genre would be tricky. After Kieran spent some time investing in the crypto space in early 2020, he stumbled upon NFTs and eventually blockchain gaming this led to him approaching Aaron (Head of Game Design) and Grant (Co-Art Director) to build their own game. Illuvium was founded in 2020 by three brothers - Kieran, Aaron, and Grant Warwick.
